The School of Architecture at the University of Illinois atUrbana–Champaign is seeking two, full-time professionals to join the GraduateAdvisor Team at either the Graduate Advisor or Senior Graduate Advisor level.

Job Summary

The School of Architecture at the University of Illinois atUrbana–Champaign seeks a full-time Graduate Advisor. The primary function ofthis position is graduate advising regarding the School of Architecturegraduate programs, graduate college information, graduate admissions, advising,recruitment, and event planning with a focus on strategizing and planning fordiverse and productive career trajectories, scholarly work, creative endeavors,and professional practices. The Advisor will work collaboratively with theExecutive Leadership Team, alumni advisory board, faculty, staff, and studentsto sustain the School's well-established partnerships and develop newrelationships with academic, professional, civic and cultural groups, andorganizations to benefit the School's diverse population of students andalumni.

 

Duties & Responsibilities
Graduate Advising
• Advise graduate students in the architecture curriculum on all aspects of thegraduate program, including but not limited to plan of study, concentrations,fellowships, and CPT.
• Liaison with the Graduate College to implement and update all graduateprocesses and policies and process all graduate paperwork in consultation withthe Associate Director of Student Affairs, the Associate Director for Academicand Curricular Programming and the graduate college.
• Advise graduate students on transitioning from the University to findingcareer opportunities and related information about internships, full-timepositions, leadership, employer engagement, and career exploration.
• Monitor and provide support, resources, and referrals for students onacademic probation, including reminding students of petitioning deadlines andcoordinating the submission of petitions to the Graduate College.
• Support international students through knowledge of the H1B/I20 Visa, CPT,OPT processes and inform them of the standards and practices of recruitment,language requirements, development, and international career management.
• Create and disburse a newsletter for graduate students with important datesand relevant information.
• Audit and certify all Graduate Degrees for graduation.
• Provide administrative support for NCARB Licensing.
• Support awards process for graduate fellowships, assistantships, andscholarships, working with the Associate Director of Student Affairs, theAssociate Director for Academic and Curricular Programming and submittingwaiver requests.
• Support student registration for Oral English Exams (EPIs) and the GraduateAcademy for College Teaching.
• Provide backup support for administering external funding allocations forgraduate students.

Graduate Admissions Process
• Assist the graduate admissions process for students entering the M. Arch andjoint programs in the School of Architecture, including coordinating thegraduate application and review process through SLATE and verifyingrequirements for all applicants.
• Assist in coordinating recruiting events and information sessions multipletimes a semester.

Graduate and Professional Programming
• Schedule midterm and final reviews each semester in coordination with thedirector, faculty, school administration, guest critics, facilities, and IT.
• Assist with planning and implementing Career Expo including, but not limitedto, contacting firms, setting dates, contracting with venues, planningcatering, transportation, printed and digital materials, resumes, portfolios,mock interviews, and cover letter workshops in collaboration with faculty,Campus Career Services, and the alumni network.
• Assist with the implementation of strategic career development programmingthat overlaps academic experience and professional development to supportprospective and current students effectively.
• Assist with developing and maintaining relationships with college and campusstakeholders to enhance career integration.
• Graduate Program events in collaboration with the Associate Director ofStudent Affairs. Included but not limited to admission activities, recruitmentactivities, open houses and Convocation.
• Occasional travel required for admissions and recruitment activities.

Other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Directoror Associate Directors.

 

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in architecture, higher education, orrelated field. Experience in programs of assistance to students in highereducation or advising.

Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in architecture, higher education, orrelated field.
Advising experience at the University of Illinois.
Knowledge of Illinois School of Architecture.
Experience using SLATE, Banner, DARS (or similar) student record systems.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The candidate should be proficient in advising, have excellent interpersonal skills, and knowledge of graduate students and their needs. Demonstrated ability to respond to concerns, motivations, and learning patterns of graduate students; ability and commitment to working with culturally diverse groups. Excellent written and oral communication skills, good teamwork skills and initiative. Ability to work with people of diverse cultures and backgrounds. Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment. Experience with information technology, including the use of social media in the delivery of services to students. Must be able to travel if necessary.

 


Senior GraduateAdvisor

 
Job Summary
The School of Architecture at the University of Illinois atUrbana–Champaign seeks a full-time Senior Graduate Advisor. Theprimary function of this position is to coordinate graduate advising regardingthe School of Architecture graduate programs, graduate college information,graduate admissions, advising, recruitment, and event planning with a focus onstrategizing and planning for diverse and productive career trajectories,scholarly work, creative endeavors, and professional practices. The Senior Graduate Advisor will work collaboratively with the Executive Leadership Team, alumni advisoryboard, faculty, staff, and students to sustain the School's well-establishedpartnerships and develop new relationships with academic, professional, civicand cultural groups and organizations to benefit the School's diversepopulation of students and alumni.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

Graduate Advising
• Advise graduate students in the architecture curriculum onall aspects of the graduate program, including but not limited to plan ofstudy, concentrations, fellowships, and CPT.

• Be the School’s NCARB Licensing Advisor and contact person for the Schoolwith regards to NCARB, AIA, AIAS, and Firms.
• Coordinate the process of awarding graduate fellowships, assistantships, andscholarships, working with the Associate Director of Student Affairs, theAssociate Director for Academic and Curricular Programming and submittingwaiver requests.
• Administer all external funding allocations for graduate students.
• Serve as the primary contact to the Center for Innovation in Teaching andLearning (CITL) to register students for Oral English Exams (EPIs) as well asthe Graduate Academy for College Teaching.
• Oversee graduate student support including degree certification and providingresources to international students and students on academic probation.

Graduate Admissions Process
• Coordinate the graduate admissions process in its entiretyfor students entering the M. Arch, MS in AS, PhD and joint programs in theSchool of Architecture, including the coordination of the graduate applicationand review process with the Associate Director of Student Affairs, and theGraduate Admissions Committee; provide information regarding the applicationprocess to prospective students including international requirements; processapplication through SLATE and verify requirements for all applicants.
• Input and process fellowships, acceptance and denial letters.

Graduate and Professional Programming

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search. The budgeted salary range for the position is $50,000 to $60,000at the Graduate Advisor level and $55,000 to $70,000 at the Senior GraduateAdvisor level. Final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessmentof available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience andqualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. 

Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.
