OUTREACH DIRECTOR, KCEP
OVERVIEW

The Kentucky Center for Economic Policy (KCEP) seeks to hire an Outreach Director. The position will lead and coordinate KCEPís efforts at building alliances, conducting advocacy and carrying out issue campaigns. Successful applicants will bring strong outreach experience and a commitment to social, economic and racial justice in Kentucky.

BACKGROUND

KCEP seeks to improve the quality of life for all Kentuckians through research, education and advocacy on important policy issues facing the commonwealth. KCEP is a non-profit, non-partisan organization and a respected provider of solid information on the impact of policies on Kentucky communities. It strives for strategic, timely and analytically rigorous research as well as compelling, clear and accessible communications. KCEP seeks to influence public understanding and debate about state fiscal and economic issues and contribute to real, lasting improvements in policy. Founded in 2011, KCEP is an initiative of the Mountain Association for Community Economic Development (MACED).

KCEPís outreach work focuses on building coalitions and partnerships and advocating to decision makers for policy change. Issue goals range from a more adequate state budget through progressively-raised revenue to expanded health coverage and policies that improve community health; criminal justice reform to reduce incarceration; protection and expansion of the safety net including Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program; strengthened public education; and improved job quality standards. KCEP seeks to build a thriving and equitable commonwealth.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The duties and responsibilities of the Outreach Director include the following.

Manage and Execute Issue Campaigns

Collaboratively develop and manage comprehensive campaign strategies on priority issues.
Enlist and involve a wide range of ally organizations and leaders in campaigns.
Help facilitate and manage coalition meetings and communications.
Develop and conduct presentations and trainings in a variety of venues around campaign issues.
Coordinate and help carry out comprehensive advocacy strategies and execute campaign tactics.
Work with research staff to inform development of analyses and products useful in outreach and advocacy.
Work with communications staff to develop materials and identify and implement digital strategies useful in outreach and advocacy.
Coordinate Organizational Outreach Strategy

Build relationships with a wide range of organizational partners across the state.
Build relationships with decision makers.
Inform our strategy and decision making with an evolving power analysis of the legislature and executive branch.
Lead organizing of KCEPís annual conference and other events.
Utilize data in outreach strategies.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Strongly articulated interest in and commitment to social, economic and racial justice.
Bachelorís degree in a related field.
Five years of experience in policy advocacy, coalition building, lobbying, issue campaigns, electoral campaigns or related work.
Demonstrable experience building diverse and effective alliances and collaborations.
Excellent organizational skills and proven ability to work collaboratively.
Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Willingness and ability to travel throughout Kentucky.
Self-motivated, creative thinker with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Ability to meet deadlines and problem-solve.
Close vision with or without corrective lenses necessary for computer work.
Manual dexterity needed to operate computer.
Able to perform assigned duties in a time-efficient manner.
Valid driverís license, ability to drive, and either insurability on MACEDís group vehicle policy or access to a reliable vehicle for regular trips.
Ability to practice safety in all aspects of the job.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND CHARACTERISTICS

Familiarity with the state legislative process.
Knowledge of state economic and fiscal policy.
Knowledge of and experience in Kentucky and awareness of Kentucky policy and politics.
Experience working in nonprofit organizations and with grassroots advocacy efforts.
